Varun Singh captain biography: In August,  when he was deployed to the Light Fighter (LCA) squadron, he was awarded the Shaurya Chakra, India’s third highest peace award, as a commander of the Air Force in October 2020. According to the Indian Air Force, Chief of Staff Bipin Rawat and Varun Singh, the captain of the group, who were the only survivors of the Mi17 helicopter crash that killed 12 others, died last week.

 “IAF is deeply saddened to announce on social media the death of captain Varun Singh, a brave group who died this morning after being injured in a helicopter accident on December 8.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said on Twitter that he was incredibly distressed when he heard of Gp’s death. Captain Sing. “He was a real fighter who fought to the last breath. My thoughts and deep condolences go to his family and friends. We will confront the family firmly in this time of sorrow.” He said.

The Mi17 V5 was on its way to Wellington’s Defense Service Staff College (DSSC) with General Rawat, his wife, and 12 other military personnel when it crashed near the destination of Nilgiris. Gp. Captain Varun Singh was sent to  DSSC as a trainer after his death.

Gp. Capt. Sing, a member of Bhopal, graduated from the Defense Academy in 2003. He was appointed as a fighter pilot in 2004 and flew Jaguars and Tajas primarily during his flight career. He was also an experimental test pilot. He leaves his wife,  son, and daughter behind.

Gp after the crash. Capt. Sing, who was the director of DSSC, was taken to Wellington Military Hospital and later to Command Hospital in Bangalore. There, despite the best efforts of his doctor, his health was still important. Officials said he suffered severe burns and remained unconscious.
