Intense rainfall in low-lying areas caused waterlogging and resulted in disruptions to suburban train services.
On the morning of July 8, Mumbai and its surrounding areas experienced intense rainfall between 1 am and 7 am, resulting in significant waterlogging and disruptions to local train services, particularly on the Central Railway routes. Some areas received over 300 mm of rainfall overnight, leading to inundated roads across the city. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a statement warning of continued heavy rainfall expected throughout July 8.
The Central Railway’s suburban services faced severe disruptions as tracks on both the Main and Harbour corridors were waterlogged, according to authorities. The civic body’s disaster management department reported that suburban services on these corridors resumed at 6:45 am. The Govandi area recorded the highest rainfall at 315 mm during this period, followed closely by 314 mm in the Powai area.
