A Delta flight bound for Rome had to make an emergency return to Boston after being struck by lightning over the Atlantic Ocean on Sunday, according to the airline and the FAA.
Delta Flight 112 had just departed from Logan International Airport in the evening when the crew reported the lightning strike, the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed.
The aircraft, which was en route to Rome, turned back while already over the Atlantic Ocean. The flight, which typically takes about seven hours, was tracked by Flightradar24.
